I have been reading your blog...Dear Mother Laurie,

I have been reading your blog regularly for quite some time, but I believe this is the first time I've ever responded to one of your entires.

Thank you for sharing parts of your life and ministry with us. Most especially, thank you for sharing your wise insights into how we can attempt to live life authentically as followers of Jesus. I find it challenging, and you often remind me that I don't have to do it perfectly, thank God.

Thank you especially for sharing your experience at Pride this past weekend. My Episcopal parish here in South Carolina has participated in our Pride parade and festival for a while. I look forward to it every year, and with good reason.

Those of us born pre-Stonewall have lived through a great deal of pain. It is very difficult to express what happens to some of us, at least to me, when straight allies stick their necks out for us. I promise you, in some alchemical way that I cannot comprehend, it transforms some of us, not just emotionally, but on a molecular level. There is a toxicity that some of us carry around from having been the object of scorn, hatred, ridicule and discrimination. And that's just from The Church! However much I might like to be impervious to it, it is simply too insidious.

But the witness that you and other Christian straight allies give not just at Pride, but weekly in parishes around our nation, is like a "Balm in Gilead" that helps some of us in our healing. This is one of the places "Where God Hides Holiness." And I believe is the Holy Spirit working through all of you. Please never forget that.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16969834099450887224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2467092921624269928.post-35830777151716170942016-06-27T10:11:20.047-04:002016-06-27T10:11:20.047-04:00Amen, Laurie.
