He led study abroad trips every other year and I went with him to Ireland at one point; he said when we get back, people will ask how the trip went. They don't actually want to know how the trip went--they want to know whether or not you had a good time and that's that. It's the true friends, he said, who will hear you say "it was great!" and ask "How?" and then sit through your long narratives of what actually happened with you.
